On the 3rd of December participants from across Europe and beyond took part in Lifelong Learning Week event ‘Global Citizenship Education - Changing the narrative around the SDGs’ created by SOLIDAR and the DARE Network with support from Bridge 47.

Brikena Xhomaqi, Director of the Life Long Learning Platform welcomed everyone to the 10th edition of the LLL Week before a panel discussion took place on the topic of education, transformation and sustainability within the current context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Speakers included Andrie Frank from SOLIDAR, Francesca Minniti of CONCORD Europe and Nils-Eyk Zimmermann of the DARE Network. Highlights of the panel discussion included comments from Swedish MEP, Evin Incir, who stated during the session that “all forms of education need to be included in our forward-looking discussions on global citizenship education” describing such an approach as “indispensable if we are to achieve the SDG”. After the main panel discussion Bridge 47 led a workshop that allowed participants to engage with some of concepts from the panel discussion. Participants were first asked ‘how can we construct and re-conceptualise educational systems and value to support the pandemic recovery and advance global solidarity’? While not an easy question to answer succinctly, a recurring theme in the responses included the need to ensure cooperation between formal, non-formal and informal education.
